Quartz purification and separation technology

Quartz purification is a highly difficult separation technology that removes or trace impurities to obtain concentrated quartz or high-purity quartz. Quartz purification and refining mainly includes water washing and graded desliming, mechanical scrubbing, magnetic flotation, acid leaching, microbial leaching, etc.

1. Cleaning, grading and desliming

As the quartz particle size becomes finer, the SiO2 grade decreases, and the impurity ore grade is opposite. This phenomenon is particularly evident in quartz ores containing large amounts of clay. Therefore, cleaning and desliming must be carried out before mineral processing.

2. scrub

Scrubbing refers to the use of mechanical force and sanding peeling force to remove the thin film on the surface of quartz ore and muddy impurity ore, and further grind the mineral materials. The quartz sand is then graded and further purified. At present, rod scrubbing and mechanical scrubbing are mainly used.

3. Flotation

The separation of mica and quartz is very difficult. The use of anionic collectors under acidic conditions or cationic-anionic collectors under alkaline conditions is effective in collecting fluoride.

4. Acid leaching

Dilute acid is good for removing iron and aluminum, while concentrated acid and aqua regia remove titanium and chromium. Generally, a mixed acid of the above acids is used to remove impurity minerals. According to the requirements of the final quartz product, various factors of acid leaching are controlled, and the acid concentration, temperature and dosage are reduced as much as possible to control production costs.

5. Magnetism

Using a strong magnetic separator to remove impurity iron is a key part. In order to achieve the high quality of product quartz, a high-intensity magnetic field is required to remove weak magnetic impurities. In recent years, strong magnetic separators have been widely used in quartz mineral processing plants.
