Manganese ore gravity separation and magnetic separation

121 3.Jul.2024 KZ Editor

Manganese is a grayish white, hard, brittle and shiny transition metal element. Most of the manganese oxide minerals and carbonate minerals are available in industry. Metallic manganese, manganese alloys and other products are widely used in the fields of steel industry, building materials and light materials chemical industry, medicine, new energy and raw materials.

Common manganese ore treatment methods can be divided into physical beneficiation, reduction leaching and roasting combined method. Physical beneficiation includes washing, gravity separation, magnetic separation and flotation.

Physical beneficiation is the most commonly used traditional beneficiation method. Traditional beneficiation is one of the methods for treating simple manganese ores with co-existing components. Minerals are separated according to the differences in properties between minerals - density, particle size, magnetism and surface hydrophobicity. It is most widely used in industry, including washing, gravity separation, magnetic separation, flotation and combined beneficiation processes.

Gravity separation

The separation of manganese oxide ores is generally carried out by gravity separation. Gravity separation is also often used for various mixed manganese oxide ores with coarse embedded particle sizes and piled manganese oxide ores. The main processing equipment in the production of manganese ore gravity separation process includes jigs (mainly used for coarse and medium-grained ore separation), shaking tables (mainly used for fine-grained material separation) and heavy medium separation.

Magnetic separation

For a long time, magnetic separation has dominated the separation of manganese ore. Manganese minerals are weakly magnetic minerals with constant specific magnetic susceptibility, and the magnetism increases with the increase of manganese grade in the ore. Gangue minerals are mostly non-magnetic aluminum silicates. Based on the magnetic differences of different components in the ore, strong magnetic separation can achieve effective enrichment of manganese minerals.

The magnetic separation of manganese ore can be divided into dry high-intensity magnetic separation, wet high-intensity magnetic separation, high-gradient magnetic separation and superconducting magnetic separation. The magnetic separation process has strict requirements on the magnetic induction intensity and ore particle size of manganese ore. Commonly used magnetic separators include dry high-intensity magnetic separators, wet high-intensity magnetic separators and high-gradient high-intensity magnetic separators.
