Overview of flake graphite process flow

53 30.Dec.2024 KZ Editor

Flake graphite, with its unique layered structure and excellent physical and chemical properties, is widely used in the industrial field. Its process flow is the key to achieve high-efficiency, high-quality separation and purification of flake graphite. The following is a typical process flow of flake graphite:

Graphite ore crushing

The mined flake graphite ore must first be crushed to reduce the particle size of the ore in preparation for subsequent grinding and beneficiation.

Graphite wet coarse grinding

The crushed ore enters the wet mill for coarse grinding. This step is intended to further reduce the ore particle size and fully expose the graphite particles.

Graphite ore roughing

The coarsely ground slurry is screened or graded by a hydrocyclone to separate graphite particles of different particle sizes. The roughing process usually adopts flotation, which uses the difference in surface properties between graphite and gangue minerals to achieve the initial enrichment of graphite by adding collectors and frothers.

Graphite rough concentrate regrinding and reselection

The rough concentrate obtained from the rough selection needs to be further finely ground to improve the dissociation and purity of the graphite. The regrinded pulp enters the reselection stage, and the grade of graphite is gradually improved through multi-stage flotation.

Graphite ore selection

The graphite concentrate after regrinding and reselection enters the selection stage. This step further improves the purity and recovery rate of graphite by finely adjusting the flotation conditions.

Graphite dehydration and drying

The selected graphite concentrate needs to be dehydrated and dried to remove moisture from the pulp for subsequent grading and packaging.

Graphite grading and packaging

The dehydrated and dried graphite is graded according to particle size, and graphite products of different particle sizes are packaged according to market demand.

In the ore dressing process of flake graphite, it is particularly important to protect large flake graphite from being damaged, because this directly affects the value of graphite products. To this end, a variety of new separation processes are used, such as stage grinding and stage separation, rapid flotation, multi-stage grinding-classification flotation-ultrasonic enhanced flake graphite flotation, mixed mesh roughing and classification grinding and flotation. The common goal of these processes is to reduce the separation process, sort out large flake graphite in advance and quickly, and prevent the flakes from being damaged during the re-grinding and re-selection process.

The process of flake graphite is a complex process involving multiple links such as crushing, grinding, flotation, dehydration and classification, and each link has an important impact on the quality and purity of the final product. Through continuous technological innovation and process optimization, the processing technology of flake graphite is developing in a more efficient and environmentally friendly direction.
