Factors affecting flotation of skarn tungsten ore

381 12.Jan.2024 KZ Editor

The ore body of skarn-type tungsten ore is lens-like, layered, and complex in shape. Common minerals in the ore include scheelite, wolframite, cassiterite, molybdenite, chalcopyrite, galena, and sphalerite. Ore, siderite, arsenopyrite, pyrrhotite, magnetite and fluorite, etc. The ore grades of different deposits vary greatly and the scale varies greatly.

Problems such as difficulty in recovery and separation and poor recovery effect often exist in flotation recovery of skarn-type tungsten ore. This article will discuss the four major factors that affect the recovery of skarn-type tungsten ore and teach you how to solve the flotation problems of skarn-type tungsten ore.

Effect of pH value on flotation of skarn tungsten ore

The pH value is an important factor affecting the flotation of skarn-type tungsten ore, especially when there are many associated calcium-containing minerals. Common associated calcium-containing minerals include fluorite, calcite, etc., when using fatty acid collectors these The mineral is often recycled together with tungsten ore, making separation difficult.

To solve this problem, caustic soda, lime, and sodium carbonate can be used as adjusters to adjust the slurry to a suitable pH value. Water glass can be used as an inhibitor to reduce the recovery of fluorite and calcite in the concentrate. The pH value is at 10 ~11 is appropriate, among which sodium carbonate as a pH adjuster has a better effect.

Effect of Inhibitors on Flotation of Skarn Tungsten Ore

In the flotation of skarn tungsten ore, water glass and tannin are often used as the main inhibitors. Water glass mainly inhibits silicon and fluorite. Calcite, etc., and carbonates need to be inhibited by adding sodium hexametaphosphate, tannins, etc. The dosage of inhibitor has a great influence on the inhibitory effect of calcium-containing minerals.

Insufficient dosage of inhibitors will result in incomplete desorption of the collector on the surface of gangue minerals, affecting the sorting effect. Excessive dosage will also inhibit the recovery of tungsten minerals. In actual production, the dosage of inhibitors should be determined through targeted flotation tests.

Effect of collector on flotation of skarn tungsten ore

Since there are many associated minerals in the selected ore, and some of them have similar flotation properties to tungsten ore, the appropriate type and amount of collector is particularly critical.

Oxidized paraffin soap is a traditional skarn-type tungsten ore collector. It has good selectivity for tungsten minerals, but its collection power is weak. Oleic acid has a good ability to capture tungsten minerals, but it can also cause calcium-containing gangue minerals to float. In order to obtain qualified products, a combination of oxidized paraffin soap, oleic acid, fatty acid sodium salt and other collectors is often selected to ensure the recovery effect while avoiding the floating of associated minerals. The dosage needs to be determined according to the mineral deposit. The composition is determined by testing.

Above we have introduced the three factors that affect the flotation of skarn-type tungsten ore. In actual production, various ore deposits vary greatly and have different recovery conditions. Ore dressing tests should be carried out in a targeted manner based on the composition and properties of the ore deposit.
